BIT Offers $1,000 Scholarships
|On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative, I am pleased to announce our eighteenth year of offering a scholarship program, now offering three (3) awards. An award of $1,000 each will be given to two (2) qualified high school graduating seniors who will enroll this fall as a full-time student in an accredited institution of higher learning only in the Commonwealth of Virginia to obtain an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree. The third award of $1,000 will be given to a qualified high school senior who will be enrolled this fall as a full-time student at Southside Virginia Community College in Alberta.|
To provide educational opportunities through scholarships to the children of cooperative members who are seniors in high school and who plan to further their education by attending an accredited institution of higher learning to obtain a college degree or technical/trade school certification.
Amount of Scholarship
Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative will award three $1000 scholarships annually to graduating seniors who meet the student scholarship criteria and are selected by the scholarship committee.
Student Scholarship Criteria
- Student’s parent or legal guardian must be a member of Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative.
- The student has maintained at least a 2.7-grade point average (based on 4.0 being an “A”) throughout his or her high school career.
- The student has demonstrated good citizenship qualities by having exhibited commendable leadership abilities and exemplary school spirit.
- A combination of weighted criteria will be used in the selection process based on financial need, academic achievement, school and community activities, student’s personal statement, and recommendations.
Application Deadline for 2019 is April 30, 2019
